Holy Departure Collective is a collaborative arts/ DIY-publishing collective that was developed as a way to communicate love. Holy Departure was co-founded by April Joseph and George Ohm. The root of “Holy Departure” refers to the English translation of Rainer Maria Rilke’s (German) poem, “To Music.”
Music: breathing of statues. Perhaps:
silence of paintings. You language where all language
ends. You time
standing vertically on the motion of mortal hearts.
Feelings for whom? O you the transformation
of feelings into what?–: into audible landscape.
You stranger: music. You heart-space
grown out of us. The deepest space in us,
which rising above us, forces its way out,–
holy departure:
when the innermost point in us stands
outside, as the most practiced distance, as the other
side of the air:
pure,
boundless,
no longer habitable. (Tr. Stephen Mitchell)
Over the last two years Holy Departure has collaborated on sound poetics, musical compositions, performance art and book making: excerpts from: Rose Body Fell, First Call Home, and Canciones de los Muertos–forthcoming in 2016.
MISSION: to connect with our truth and create collaborative works of art that will speak to us all. We are a DIY publishing collective that is committed to printing chapbooks, learning the letterpress craft and making our art accessable/available to you–by whatever means necessary (through guerilla means or for sale, because let’s face it, we all have to eat.)
